What do Disciples believe?

Disciples are called together around one essential of faithóbelief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of the Living God. As He has taught us, we believe His greatest commandment is that we shall love the Lord our
God with all of our heart, with all our soul, with all our strength and with all our mind and that His second greatest
commandment is that we love our neighbors as ourselves. (Matthew 22:37-39). Other beliefs/ practices with the Disciples
usually include:
.Open Communion. The Lordís Supper, or communion, is celebrated in weekly worship. All who believe in Jesus
Christ are welcome at His table.
.Freedom of Belief. For all who believe in Jesus Christ, we respect each personís right to follow his/her conscience,
guided by the teachings of Holy Bible, the Holy Spirit, study and prayer, and to extend that freedom of belief to others.
.Baptism by Immersion. Through baptism, the old, self-centered life is washed away and a new life of trust in God
begins. Although Disciples practice baptism by immersion, other baptism traditions are honored.
.Belief in the oneness of the Church. All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for
common witness and service.
.The ministry of believers. All ministers and laypersons lead in worship, service and spiritual growth.
